Foundation Year Doctors (F1 & F2)
F2 in Portsmouth and Isle of Wight
We have developed a variety of 4 month placements including full-time general practice and others where general practice is combined with other specialties e.g. Women's Health, Public Health, Academic Medicine and Medical Education. F2 Doctors have 12 months clinical experience as a Doctor in secondary care. They are attached to GPs to have a meaningful experience of Primary Care. Some of them may want to go on to train for a career in General Practice. The Foundation Programme in General Practice Handbook (click here) explains in detail how the scheme works, in particular the supervisory roles and the nature of the attachment. To become an F2 Supervisor for placements in General Practice, criteria have to be met for approval of a non-Training Practice. These are different to those for a Training Practice, and are detailed in the Application Form and Criteria for a GP F2 Supervisor (click here). A Trainers Grant is payable for F2 Supervisors currently in the region of £7,500 per annum pro rata. Completion of an F2 Supervisory Course is needed to become a supervisor, consisting of two half days.
