A product of the Portsmouth VTS, and a full time partner at the Osborne Practice since 1991, I have been involved with training the registrars at the practice for over a decade. In 2004 I became a trainer myself, and am now on my third registrar. My first two registrars enjoyed their years with the practice and both passed the MRCGP without problems.
Away from the practice I have an interest in Occupational medicine. I am a keen cyclist, though most of my energy is consumed by my kids.

The Practice
|
| The Osborne Practice is a large 4 partner practice based on two sites in Southsea, Hampshire. Our main site is a recently refurbished and extended townhouse, owned by the partners, 500 yards from Southsea seafront. Our second site is in a modern Health Centre, two miles away. Approximately 10,000 patients are split between the two sites. Our Practice covers a densely populated urban area, measuring three miles by one mile, bounded to the south by Southsea seafront, and to the north by urban Portsmouth.
Our staff of approximately 25 includes our highly trained nursing team, to whom a high degree of clinical work is delegated. We are regarded as a progressive modern Practice, with Emis and NHSnet networked to all staff over both sites. The Dr's share rooms at Eastney Health Centre, whilst at Osborne Road each has their own room. The Registrar also has their own room and PC.

Training at the Practice
|
- We are a very busy practice in a pleasant urban seaside setting
- Two sites, diverse patient demography
- Close enough to the big city (Portsmouth) when we want to be
- Far enough away to avoid most Big City problems
- We have pleasant modern premises and practice modern medicine
- Whole team aims to be friendly and approachable. Close relationships with many of our past registrars bears this out, we hope!
- Isle of Wight, South Coast and South Downs are close by, making this a pleasant environment for both work and recreation.
- The sea view from our conference room!

"Osborne Road Practice offers an excellent training environment with a ready opportunity to experience the diversity of patient care in General Practice. I can vouch that the GP registrar will receive bags of support, encouragement and advice throughout the year, and will not only leave very well equipped for his or her future career but will also take with them fondest memories of a very enjoyable time in a wonderful seaside setting." - Dr Jeremy Sims - 2002.
