The Practice
Carisbrooke Health Centre is located centrally in the Isle of Wight in the village of Carisbrooke. The village merges with the main town of Newport and has the dramatic castle looking down on us, which is in easy reach for a walk. We have the youngest average patient population on the island being the same as an average city practice in the UK. This gives our registrars plenty of experience in dealing with children and families. We have a very nice population of families in town and rurally. The practice population has increased from 5200 in 1996 to 9500 in 2009. Likewise we have increased numbers of our happy band of partners from 3 full-time in 1996 to 3 full-time (David Isaac, Patrick Wills and Jayne King) and 3 three-quarter time(Judith Moore, Ide McCarthy and Katie Ramsey) in 2008. Despite being a larger team we still value our coffee time together to discuss cases or just to know everyone is ok. Our premises were once a convent school before we moved into it in 1996 and a private house before that. It has alot of characture with a sweeping staircase and pillars in the entrance and a wonderful waiting room in the previous ballroom then dining hall.

Training at the Practice
Judith Moore is the trainer and does the tutorials and assessments and most of the clinical supervision, but as she is part-time David Isaac and Patrick Wills do a day of clinical supervision each per week. This has been appreciated by our registrars so they get to experience a variety of styles in consulting and approaches to clinical management.
We have been a training practice since august 2006, starting with foundation year 2 doctors then registrars since august 2007. All members of the primary health care team and our patients enjoy having students and training doctors as part of the team and so far everyone who has come to us have enjoyed being part of our team.
