The Practice
|
|
West Wight is an enthusiastic Training Practice. We will complete our first year as trainers in August 2010, by which time we will have had experience of two ST2 trainees and will be about to embark on our first twelve months with an ST3 Registrar. Thanks to a NESC Training Development Grant we have a lovely new training suite with a dedicated consulting room for the Registrars adjacent to the trainer’s room and a new library with Internet access.
The Island is beautiful part of the world in which to live and work. Those who enjoy outdoor activities, especially walking, cycling and water sports will find it a particularly pleasing environment. There is a lively and growing music scene on the island with major annual festivals in a variety of genres.

Training at the Practice

We are a large friendly practice with 5.8 whole time equivalent doctors, full Primary Health Care Team and District Nurses, Health Visitors and Care Managers on site. Our list size is over 11,100 patients with one of the oldest practice populations on the Island as about 30% of our patients are over 65yrs of age. Our practice area is rural/semi-rural and includes Nursing , Residential and Specialist Dementia Homes. Dr Hill and Dr Walker also run regular Baby Clinics with the Health Visitor so there is also plenty of primary care paediatric experience to be had!
Our Registrar will gain extensive experience in primary medical care, develop effective decision-making skills, and learn how to work within a primary health care team. We provide a busy but supportive environment in which a Registrar can learn and hone skills to become a good GP.
