The Practice

Portsdown Group Practice is an 12 doctor practice serving the north of Portsmouth City and Waterlooville. We work from three surgeries with support from a full range of attached staff. The surgeries are fully computerised.
The practice population is very diverse ranging from the very deprived to the very affluent. The variety of patients seen is increased by the practice policy of giving everyone who wishes to register with us a chance.
As a large organisation the practice can offer the registrar the benefit of two trainers and numerous attached staff such as the business manager, practice manager, in-house pharmacist, nurse practitioners and physiotherapist to help and assist with the training year. |
Training at the Practice

We feel that our registrars are offered a unique blend of hard work, responsibility and total support (both professional and pastoral). Time spent with us is structured to the registrar's need and education will proceed at a pace, which is comfortable but challenging for both the registrar and the trainer. Five of our doctors were registrars in the practice meaning that the whole medical team is totally committed to registrar training.
In summary, we try to deliver training in which the registrar achieves his or her full potential in a secure and enjoyable environment. Whilst protocols and guidelines are discussed, we value the acquisition and application of wisdom and common sense in medicine above all else. |
