Welcome to the Primary Care Education website for Portsmouth, South East Hampshire and the Isle of Wight. This site is aimed at all who are interested in any aspect of General Practice Education from Medical Student to GP Principal, whether you are lucky enough to live in this beautiful part of England or are considering a move to our region.

Our purpose is to support all aspects of general practice education in the healthcare communities based around Portsmouth Hospitals and on the Isle of Wight.  We are funded by Wessex Deanery and hosted by NHS Portsmouth.

We have a long tradition of excellence in GP Training, and believe we have continued to build upon our strong foundations.  Portsmouth developed the first GP SHO posts, and hosted the first Post Graduate Associate Director; many of our local GPs have protected time every month for education as part of the TARGET scheme.  Our academic strength has led to regular publications in 'Education for Primary Care' and we have several RCGP examiners amongst our GP Trainers and Education team.

Our vision of education is that it should be of high quality, focused upon each individual, up to date and enjoyable.  We have an excellent administration and support team and strong links with our local hospital and Primary Care Trusts.
