Out of Hours as an ST1/2 in GP
You need to do the equivalent of one OOH session per month during your GP placement in ST1/2. Unfortunately the OOH service in Portsmouth is not able to support enough sessions for all the ST1/2 doing GP as well as the ST3 (for whom it is also compulsory) so it has been agreed that as an ST1/2 you don't have to do an actual OOH session but you need to do a session in another service which also provides OOH cover for your patients - the idea being that you gain some awareness of other services which your patients may use out of normal working hours. You need to do at least six sessions (the equivalent of one session a month) during your 6 month attachment and they must be recorded on this proforma and attached to your ePortfolio under OOH heading.
The sessions can be with any appropriate local service, which you should agree with your trainer in advance. This table give you some ideas and contacts within the Portsmouth area, but is not exhaustive. Most of these organisations will require some notice to arrange a mutually convenient time so it's probably best to make the arrangements early in your GP attachment. If you are only able to arrange a time within normal working hours, this is fine, but you need to make up the time in the practice (i.e. it cannot be counted as study leave). The rationale is that you're being paid to do 'on calls', but you can use the time to get the most out of a session which would be useful for you.
